The Gran Viaje

Lazy summer days

Hello everyone!  This is the second time I am writing this post sorry it is so late.  Last internet place cut me off right when I hit the post but was hoping it went through anyway.  So we are in the lovely little beach town of Puerto Viejo, on the carribbean side of the country close to the border with Panama.  We found a neat little place to stay right off the bus by following a New Yorker on a bike whose friend owns a hotel here.  haha.

We have enjoyed walking around and getting to know the town.  The best thing about this place is the food.  There is delicious food at every restaurant, the only down side is that is a bit more expensive.  Lindsay and Andrei have explored the beach and town throughly while Marion and I took a day off reading and lounging.  We did go on a 3 hour walk though so we weren’t completely locked up all day.  The differences between this town and the other two we have been to in Costa Rica are completely different.  Costa Rica has many faces.  There is a lot of Bob Marley and Jamaican pride here, making for an interesting experience and a cool spanish/jamaican accent.

Today we all went out to a town near by called Cahuita.  It is a national park with a really cool nature trail.  The trail was about 8 kms long and took us about 5 hours to complete.  We had so much fun.  It is part trail part beach all mixed in.  We saw lots of cool plants and trees but most exciting of all….we saw a sloth and a TON of howler monkeys.  Well worth a cool trip.  We took tons of pictures.  We also saw woodpeckers, orange crabs, huge grasshoppers, some pretty butterflies, and cool heron.  Neat walk huh?

Tomorrow we are headed toward Panama entailing an 11 hour bus ride!  We love and miss you all.  Sorry again that this post is so late.

I FINALLY FOUND THE WEBSITE!! WOO-HOO!!

Wow, I have just finished about 2 hours worth of backtracking on ya’ll’s adventures through the foreign land and I am exhausted. It sounds like you are all still in one piece and getting along, both pluses in my book.

I wish I could come and see the sloths with you, Lindsay. They are interesting looking fellows. You will see them soon, I hope.

Ya’ll are not missing a thing in Tuscaloosa… I start work on Monday, which is good because Italia left me with no money, even though I didn’t even end up buying that much. Damn the Euro and my sucky exchange rate. Meah…

    Love and miss you, amici!
